Free To Dance

REVIEW: This site contains a series of resources for Free to Dance, a three part documentary on the influence of African American choreographers on US modern dance. The Resources section contains a bibliography of paper sources, lists of videos and a series of web links on key aspects of the programme. There are also essays, interviews, biographies and a time line, together with a schools lesson plan. The site is a self-contained module in the PBS website and provides a valuable focus on the subject. Free to Dance is a co-production by the American Dance Festival (ADF) and the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The programme was created for PBS, a not-for-profit broadcast company in the US (June 2002, US).

Stephen Foster: Behind the Scenes of the Film

REVIEW: This site on Stephen Foster explores the life of the American songwriter and the Behind the Scenes page reports on the process of reconstructing dance sequences for the film on Foster. The historical film is made by 'American Experience' for PBS, a not-for-profit broadcast company in the US (June 2002, US).
