Biography
Carole-Anne is Professor of Drama at the University of Ulster, based in Derry, Northern Ireland. She studied languages and drama at the Universities of Cambridge and London, and took up a lectureship in Drama at the University of Hull in 1993, following a short time as a freelance director. In 2000 she was awarded a European Erasmus Teaching Fellowship and in 2001 was appointed Deputy Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She moved to Ulster in 2005.
She was Chair of the Standing Conference of University Drama Departments, the UK Subject Association for Drama, from 2003-2007 having been vice-Chair from 1999. Carole-Anne is proud to have been involved with PALATINE since it was first established, as a member of the Management Committee, and from 2007 as Senior Academic Advisor for Drama.
Her research areas include contemporary Irish theatre, francophone theatre, translation for performance, directing, and she has a longstanding interest in the work of Samuel Beckett. She has also published on postcolonial African and Caribbean theatre and edited a volume on translation entitled Moving Target: Theatre Translation and Cultural Relocation.
