CoLab - a collaborative arts enterprise project

This Higher Education Academy funded project is a collaborative undertaking between PALATINE, Manchester Metropolitan University (Cheshire) and Coventry University School of Art and Design.

It aims to develop graduate to postgraduate to emergent professional support for the development of enterprise capability and entrepreneurial creative practice. At MMU Cheshire the project has supported the development of an Arts and Cultural Enterprise strand in the MA Contemporary Arts Programme, which is designed for both emerging and established professional artists across disciplines. At CSAD the project has supported work examining models and practices for the effective integration of creative practice and process and entrepreneurial skills and understanding.

Underpinning this project is the notion that enterprise need not be seen as an addition to the emergent artist’s workload, but can be repositioned as a central and nourishing aspect of their process and practice.

The published outcomes from the project will be a pedagogical DVD being produced by the project team as a basis for discussing the issues raised by the project and a report, ICEBreaker by Mark Evans (Principal Lecturer, Performing Arts, Coventry University). This report is an examination of models and practice for the effective integration of creative practice and entrepreneurial skills and understanding, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, within the performing arts.
